In 1983 the Taj Mahal became a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was cited as "the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage."

The Taj Mahal costs in today's money about US $100 million. No one person conceived the Taj Mahal in India. Rather, it is the collective creation of different people who contributed to the project at various times over the course of two decades. The design was evolutionary.

Best & worse times to visit

March to April and October to mid December are the ideal times. Heavy monsoon rains fall in July to mid September - and temperatures can be scorching from April to June.

Most travelers call this wonder in India the world's most beautiful building - ever. Some say it's worth a trip half way around the world just to see it.

Black taj Mahal is still a myth. Shah Jahan wanted to build a black Taj Mahal for himself on the other side of the river, he had an obsession with symmetery apparently but for unknown reasons he couldnt implement the plan. some claim that the plan wasnt successfull as he was killed by his son Aurangzeb. while some claim that he had earound 5 years after he build the 1st Taj Mahal and got arrested, he could have immediately constructed the 2nd one. Some also claim that that are remannats of black marble which indicate an incomplete plan implementatiion while others oppose to it.
